As Labor's former Foreign Affairs spokesman, Robert McClelland met with a number of world leaders in 2007 including Chinese president Hu Jintao, Philippines president Gloria Arroyo, Greek prime minister Kostas Karamanlis and Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari.
Robert also recently toured the US aircraft carrier USS Kittyhawk while it was in the country for joint operations with Australian forces.
There have been a couple of presentations of the Australian Defence Medal in Robert's office this year. Major Smith and Brigadier Bridie presided at the most recent presentation while Lieutenant Colonel Vaile did the honours at the earlier ceremony.
Robert recently spoke to students at Rockdale Public School and was impressed by the thought that went into the questions they asked him.
Earlier in the year, Robert attended a Chinese New Year function in Hurstville.
