Robert McClelland is the federal member of parliament for Barton, based in the St George area of Sydney. On this website, you can find out what Robert does in the local community and the parliament, and how he might be able to help you.

Robert was born and bred in the local area. He did his HSC at Blakehurst High, where he was school captain, then studied law at the University of NSW. He was elected to parliament in 1996, appointed shadow attorney-general in 1998, shadow minister for workplace relations in 2001, shadow minister for homeland security in 2003, shadow minister for defence in 2004, and shadow minister for foreign affairs in 2006. With the election of the Rudd Labor Government, Robert was appointed attorney-general in 2007.

As your local federal MP, Robert can help you with problems you are having with federal government departments such as Centrelink, the Tax Office, Medicare, Veterans Affairs, Immigration and Aged Care. For problems with housing, transport, and other state government issues you should contact your state member of parliament while questions about development and local area problems should be directed at your local councillors. If you are unsure of which government has responsibility for your area of concern, you can always contact the electorate office for assistance.

Robert also lobbies the government on behalf of residents to try to reduce aircraft noise and increase federal government funding for local organisations such as schools and hospitals. There are factsheets on the Parliament House website, explaining what an MP does, the roles of ministers and shadow ministers, and a typical sitting day.

You can also visit Robert at Facebook and Myspace.
