Mr McClelland (Barton) asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs, in writing, on 21 June 2007:
For the month of (a) January, (b) February, (c) March and (d) April and (e) May 2007, what is the estimated number of foreign military personnel fighting the insurgency in Iraq.
Mr Downer (Mayo—Minister for Foreign Affairs)—The answer to the honourable member’s question is as follows:
It is not possible to provide figures for the number of foreign military personnel “fighting the insurgency” in Iraq. Coalition forces, including those from Australia, are engaged in a wide-range of activities in support of the Iraqi Government and people.
